A Distant planet hides a secret... An artifact buried deep... It makes your nightmares come alive! (...and then you die...)
As a lone spaceship proceeds on its long voyage across space, the crew are surprised to encounter a strange pyramid form. Surprise turns to horror as one by one, they discover that their darkest nightmares are all starting to become real. The pyramid has to be behind it all somehow, but how can they save themselves from its influence? This movie is one of my all time science fiction horror hybrid favorites. The effects are beautifully "hand crafted" and innovative. I have to say, the dark and colorful atmosphere of the film is very unique. It's a classic mix of monsters, miniatures and matte paintings and of course make-up effects! The plot has since been used and reused in such films as The Sphere and Event Horizon. I was a teen, when I first saw this film in a crappy, heavily cut VHS form and since then I wanted to see it again. A bit nostalgic here. This version is UNCUT, the infamous "worm rape"- scene and other gore is intact. It was also funny to see Erin Moran (from "Happy Days") to get the sci-fi "treatment". The DVD quality is quite OK, no extras. It should have deserved a Special Edition!!! What more can I say, I just love this film! Quality Rating Score: Questions?
